POTENTIAL SECURITY IMPACT: Remote Unauthorized Privileged Access

VULNERABILITY SUMMARY: A potential vulnerability has been identified with OpenView Event Correlation Services (OV ECS). This vulnerability could be exploited remotely by an unauthorized user to gain privileged access.

SUPPORTED SOFTWARE VERSIONS*: ONLY impacted versions are listed. HP OpenView Event Correlation Services (OV ECS) ECS 3.31, ECS 3.32, and ECS 3.33 running on HP-UX B.11.00, B.11.11, and B.11.23, Solaris, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Linux.

END AFFECTED VERSIONS

RESOLUTION:
Until patches are available the potential vulnerability can be avoided by moving the ecscmg.ovpl file from the cgi-bin directory into another directory. The directory should not have write permissions for ordinary users.
The ecscmg.ovpl file is located in the /opt/OV/www/cgi-bin/ directory for HP-UX, Solaris, and Linux. The file is located in the wwwcgi-bin for Windows 2000, Windows NT, and Windows XP.

MANUAL ACTIONS: Yes - NonUpdate Move ecscmg.ovpl from the cgi-bin directory into another directory.
